I WILL SHED ALLEGIANCE to these out-of-date, insane directives.

The Code

I will honor my mother and father, not commit adultery, steal, kill or testify falsely against another. I will love my neighbor as myself and do unto others as I would have them do unto me.

I believe we are all temporary miracles created equal under the law, endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights, valid in all times and places, and that among these rights are life, liberty, property, security and the right to pursue happiness.

I believe Liberty consists in the right to do everything which does not injure others; hence the exercise of the natural rights of all human beings has no limits except those which assure other members of society the full enjoyment of those same rights.

I believe the laws of man ought to be created by consent of the governed and that the duty of my government is to insure justice in the land; to prevent the strong from oppressing the weak; to enlighten and educate the citizenry and to further their welfare.

I believe long-established religions should not be changed for light or transient causes, but when certain of their provisions call for engagement in actions that violate the universal, natural, and inalienable basic rights of my fellow man, I agree to shed my allegiance to those irrational religious directives that conflict with any part of this code. I therefore pledge not follow any religious law or dictate calling for injury to others and will not engage in any activity that deprives another person of his or her basic natural human rights.

On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to my creator, my family, friends and country. I pledge to help others whenever I can; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.

I promise to be trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind and obedient to accepted authority. I will strive to be cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent.

I will do my best to be honest and fair, considerate and caring, courageous and responsible for what I say and do. I will respect myself and others, use resources wisely and make the world a better place.

Because I am a member of The Modern Human Race.
